Ian

Ian decided to become a driving instructor in 1998 and initially trained with a large national company. However, within his first 6 months he was generating so many pupils from recommendations that he launched his own company, 17 Plus. It began as a one man operation but quickly became successful and more instructors came on board. Ian has had over 900 passes since he started teaching and is looking forward to his 1000th! "There is nothing better than seeing a former pupil driving the other way!"

Stuart

Stuart has been a fully qualified driving instructor since September 2000, so he has lots of experience in all aspects of driving tuition. He has a high first time pass rate which is well above the local and national average. Stuart has a strong reputation for being a very calm, placid, patient instructor, who works well with nervous students. He believes it's important to develop fully independent drivers so that they can safely deal with any situation. Stuart has a daughter who is 17 years old, and Stuart has had the 'fun' of teaching her to drive this year.
Nick

Nick has been an approved driving instructor since January 2003. Nick worked for a national driving school for 14 years and joined 17 Plus in February 2017. Before Nick became a driving instructor, he spent 6 years working for Dartline Travel as a coach driver where he did a variety of UK and continental holiday tours. Nick is very calm and patient and will always give you all the help and support you need to become a safe and confident driver.

Phil

Phil first started to teach as an instructor in the army way back in 1982. He was based in Germany at that time. He went on to be a schools instructor and taught people to be driver mechanics and instructors on a wide range of military vehicles both wheeled and tracked. Since leaving the army he has taught in the Bournemouth and Poole area before moving back to Devon and teaching in Newton Abbot. He has now been teaching in the Exeter area since 2008. Phil enjoys helping people to achieve their goals in learning to drive and passing the test as he's fully aware of how it can change their life. Fernando

Fernando has been an approved driving instructor since 2010. Fernando started his career in Portugal where, in addition to preparing pupils for their driving test, he was also responsible for preparing and delivering group teaching classes to help pupils prepare for their theory test. Fernando has been working in the UK since 2015 for a national driving school and has joined 17 Plus in 2021. He is friendly and enthusiastic and offers his teaching in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Fernando is well known for his calm and clear approach to teaching, which he likes to combine with his sense of humour. Fernando’s enthusiasm and willingness to help pupils to achieve their individual goals means that he is continuously committed to improve his teaching skills and methods. By doing this, Fernando ensures that his approach to teaching is tailored to each pupil’s needs.
Damon

Damon has been a driving instructor for 3 years now. “I love helping people achieve their goals. I used to be a karate instructor for 14 years prior to doing this job. Learning to drive shouldn’t be scary or stressful, with me I hope we can get you to test standard and beyond with a smile and a pass.”
