Ian decided to become a driving instructor in 1998, and started to train with a large national company to become a Driving Instructor. He started to teach pupils as a trainee instructor and then passed his final exam to become a fully qualified instructor. Within 6 months he was generating most of his pupils from recommendations and decided to go on his own and launched 17Plus in 1999.
Robin has been part of the 17+ driving School since 2001, having originally started with a National driving school in 1996. He really wanted to offer a more personal and individual approach to teaching people to drive and saw that 17 Plus would give him that opportunity. Learning to drive and passing the practical driving test can be a bit of a daunting experience, however, his aim is to offer a calm and reassuring approach to learning to drive. Robin is a Fully Qualified Driving Standards Agency Driving Instructor and has a Level 3 NVQ in driving instruction. He is totally committed to abiding by the voluntary code of practice and continuing professional development

He qualified as a teacher from Exeter University after completing an honours degree in molecular and micro biology. He still teaches adult education to students of Weston Collage because he is a committed passionate, professional educator. He is therefore able to offer you the opportunity of tutoring you through the successful completion of the theory test. He has an almost 100% first time pass rate within this area, and has been offering this one to one tuition to his pupils for many years.

He will guide you through all the aspects of road craft to enable you to become an independent confident accomplished driver. “I believe in teaching all the principles of road craft, not just driving techniques, this way the learner is able to apply these principles to all situations that they may find themselves in and so this gives them the ability to cope with any eventuality.”
